Fostering Communications using Socialbots

This story is both fascinating and scaring. While working on the Web Ecology Project, a social media research project, scientists examined the claimed ability of social media experts to foster communications between people and to increase the amount of followers.

This research had the character of a competition between groups of scientists and some decided to use bots to support their efforts. So socialbots came into space and acted within the communication of the survey group. These bots automaticly retweeted particular messages, which generated @replies, led to more followers and inproved the conversation between real people. For further information about the experiment and the background read the article Twitter Bots Create Surprising New Social Connections.

Study about Cases of Data Utilization in Online Marketing

To marketers utilizing the large amount of data available today is one of the hottest trends and most important up to date tasks. The IAB has conducted a study about this usage and put together first approaches on data aggregation, management and deployment as well as case studies.

Two major trends have been identified, the enrichment of the traditional approach with data to optimize campaigns and channels and an approach relying more on data alone. The latter requires a whole new ecosystem and thinking. In this new ecosystem data becomes aggregated and anonymized and to handle the large amounts of data special infrastructure becomes developed to manage and process the data.

In general data becomes available in realtime and processing this large amount of data is still a hurdle. Despite of this hurdle first usage like described in the article Data about Effectiveness of Targeting based on Social Graphs are promising and successful examples.
