From webcams to webcam communities to live streaming. Live broadcasting on the internet gains steam. Now already existing webcam communities like Livestream, which provides an app as well, or YouNow and of course Hangouts by Google now are followed by a new generation of mobile apps. These currently have a lot of coverage (s.a. Social Networks create Media and Video Future).
The talk is about the Twitter live video streaming apps Meerkat and Periscope. The first started earlier this year as an independent app and was followed by Periscope owned by Twitter. The development is fast and for both apps now portals exist providing lists of happening live streams, Meerkat Streams and Periscope Streams.
Especially for Meerkat another interesting service to record the streams exists being realized by an astonishing simple procedure. Using katchkats one just need to add the hashtag #katch to the header or within a comment and the recording will be published on YouTube and within the comments of a stream.
And while the hype about Meerkat and Periscope is going on a further mobile live streaming app called Stre.am has been launched. This and the app by Livestream as well will comfort Android users, because Meerkat and Periscope are just available to iPhone users up to now.
